Recognition of Internship

  • Internship placement report from Platypus stating your host organisation’s name and the number of hours, credit points and assessments you have completed.

The Internship Process

As a Platypus Intern, you'll benefit from an exceptional level of support before, during and after your Internship.

When you Register we assign you an internship coordinator who will manage your internship placement from start to finish. Your coordinator will contact you by email / Skype / phone to get to know you personally and discuss your requirements for the internship. We help you construct a CV to present to host companies and prepare you for your initial interviews. We organise your Working Holiday Visa, Aussie bank account and mobile SIM card and will be available to answer all your questions. 

Arrival in Australia. Platypus will arrange the essentials so your first week in Sydney is hassle-free and lots of fun. We'll take care of your airport transfer and accommodation. Your coordinator will meet with you and introduce you to our Group Leaders who will be with you during your Introduction Week. We will organise your shared accommodation and provide all the support you need to prepare for your first day at work. 

During your internship we will maintain close communication with you and your Host Company to ensure everything runs smoothly. If you have any problems or concerns we will be on-hand to resolve them. You will be invited to regular social events, tours and activities to stay in touch with other Interns in your area.

After your internship we will help you plan your travels around Australia or find a paying job. We provide ongoing support during your entire stay in Oz!

When can I start?

As an Intern you have the flexibility of choosing your preferred start dates.  Allow for 4-8 week lead time for us to get everything organised for you. Register Your Interest Now

Do I need a Visa?

Platypus will arrange a 12-month working holiday visa on your behalf, either subclass 417 or 462 depending on your nationality. Your visa allows you to participate in an internship, work, travel and study in Australia and you may also be eligible for a 2nd year visa extension. 

To be eligible for a visa you must: 

  • Have a valid passport
  • Be aged between 18 and 30 years old
  • Currently studying or a recent graduate
  • Be a national of Australia are Belgium, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, HKSAR, Republic of Ireland, Italy, republic of Korea, Japan, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UK & USA. 

What is the maximum length of an Internship?

You can work for a maximum of 6-months (26 weeks) with each Host Company

Do I get paid?

With most internships in Australia you will not be paid. You will work voluntarily in return for a rewarding and career-enhancing experience. 

How much does it cost?

Whilst living in Australia you will need to pay for living expenses such as food, accommodation and having fun. Internship program fees vary depending on the duration of your internship. Click here for more information.

What if English is not my first language?

That's fine, most Platypus interns do not speak English as a first language. You will need a conversational level of English to be suitable placed within most organisations in Australia. Good written English will also be necessary for many roles. We will arrange a Skype / phone interview to assess your English skills. If you wish, we can help you arrange a short English Language course prior to the start of your internship to better prepare you for the role. Click here for more information.

What happens after my internship?

Most interns choose to travel around Australia once their internship has ended. Our travel experts will help you plan the perfect trip across Australia to suit your timeframe and your budget. Our Recruitment Experts can also help you find a paid job to help fund your travels. Jobs include bar work, hospitality, trades and labour and farm work, some of which may enable you to apply for a 2nd year visa extension, so you can stay 12-months longer in Oz.
